Is American Culture Loss?

In a world where creativity is often met with indifference, let’s take a moment to address a pressing issue that many of us, especially those of us aged 33 and up, have encountered: the blatant disrespect that creators face when they’re just starting out. It’s a reality that should be illegal. Why? Because every creative endeavor deserves recognition and respect from the get-go.

As the legendary Erykah Badu once pointed out, the struggles of creators are all too real. The harsh truth is that there’s an alarming trend of undermining the voices and visions of those who dare to step into the creative arena. This disrespect not only stifles innovation but also attacks one’s freedom and safety. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, yet it’s something we must confront head-on.

You might have heard the phrase, “make sure you have proper legal representation.” This advice resonates deeply in a climate where boundaries are often disregarded. At what point does it become abundantly clear that when someone respectfully requests respect, they genuinely mean it? Ignoring such a request speaks volumes about one’s character. Can we trust someone who dismisses boundaries? Are they a healthy presence in our lives, or are they too focused on their own agenda to see the bigger picture?

Understanding boundaries is crucial, especially in a creative space. Take, for example, how I gauge a couple's dynamic when they greet me. I extend my hand to see who takes the lead. This small gesture reveals a lot about their relationship and mutual respect. Boundaries can be crossed in ways that the inexperienced might overlook, and it often takes experience, hustle, and a touch of divine grace to navigate these nuances.

Today, the quality of life feels increasingly "plasticky," lacking authenticity and depth. We need to bring back the values of old money — the respect, the class, the appreciation for artistry — but with a modern twist. Our new president has expressed a belief in rekindling the success America once had, and I can't help but echo that sentiment. I miss the days when creativity was celebrated, and every visionary was given their due.

However, this time around, it’s essential that everybody gets an opportunity to eat. We must advocate for a culture that values respect, boundaries, and the genuine contributions of creators. The landscape is ripe for change, and it starts with us recognizing the inherent worth of every individual’s creative journey.

Let’s champion a movement where respect is the norm, not the exception. Together, we can create an environment that not only nurtures creativity but also upholds the boundaries that protect and empower us all. It’s time to stand up for creators and ensure that their voices are heard and respected. After all, every artist deserves a chance to thrive, and it’s our duty to make that happen.
